Congressional Advocate

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) seeks a Congressional Advocate to play a central role in executing the Association’s Capitol Hill advocacy efforts. The Congressional advocate will help orchestrate proposals, strategy, and tactics to benefit community college students and institutions. The individual will be a high-profile advocate with Congressional members and staff. Duties also include intensifying AACC’s member chief executive officers’ (CEOs) relationships with key legislators.

Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of preferably recent Capitol Hill experience in federal education policy or a closely related field, combined with directly related advocacy experience. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of the Congressional procedures, tactics, and issue formulation as well as a more general background in the federal policy making process; a background in higher education policy and related issues is preferred. The job requires excellent oral and written communications skills. Limited travel is required.
