Overview
The Massasoit Community College Board of Trustees seeks confidential nominations and expressions of interest for the college's next president. In these historically unprecedented times, we seek a visionary leader, who is politically astute, and possesses exceptional advocacy, communication, and team building skills to lead us in reimaging how we can more effectively meet the needs of our students and the communities we serve. We desire a collaborative leader, who can successfully manage change and has a record of supporting and advancing student success initiatives that are guided by diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
Founded in 1966, Massasoit Community College is one of the largest of the 15 Massachusetts public community colleges and has facilities in Brockton, Canton, and Middleborough (Plymouth and Norfolk counties). The Brockton and Canton campuses are located 20 and 15 miles south of Boston, respectively. The college offers 64 programs and certificates that are designed to prepare students for the next step in their educational journey. Programs designated as transfer are designed for students who plan to earn their bachelor's degree at another college or university once they have completed their studies at Massasoit. Programs without a transfer designation or marked as career are better suited for students who are seeking to directly enter the workforce. All of the academic programs fall under six Pathways: Arts, Humanities & Communications; Business Administration & Management; Culinary & Hospitality; Education & Human Services; Health & Public Safety; and STEM. The FY2019 annual unduplicated headcount for credit students was 10,162 (4,407 FTEs) and more than 3,000 students enrolled in non-credit community education or workforce development courses.
Examples of Massasoit's points of distinction include the following: Massasoit is one of only 10 institutions recently chosen from across the country to participate in the American Council on Education's (ACE) pilot cohort of the Learner Success Laboratory (LSL)– the college will work over a 12 – 18 months period to integrate evidence-based practices as part of the LSL. For 2018, Massasoit ranked 10th overall in the number of associate degrees granted to students of color by the national publication, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, the only community college in Massachusetts to appear on the list. Massasoit offers a variety of opportunities for high school students to take classes for college credit that include traditional dual enrollment, early college pathways in an area of study, and Gateway to College, an early college high school program that supports students up to an associate degree. Massasoit is the higher education partner for New Heights Charter School of Brockton. It is Massachusetts' first and only brick-and-mortar early college high school. Massasoit's comprehensive athletic program includes baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, track & field, and volleyball. A member of the women's basketball team was recently named NJCAA Women's Basketball Division III Player of the Week for averaging 41.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 5.5 steals per game, while shooting 57.5 percent from the floor.
